The Limassol Kitesurfers Community is writing to respectfully request your permission to install a weather station at the tip of the breakwater, which is a part of the small fishermen harbor near the Akrotiri sand dunes. The breakwater was recently extended and as a result, there is now an unused base for the harbor inlet light, which we would like to use as a base for the weather station.
The proposed weather station will measure and report wind conditions, air temperature, and pressure, and the data collected will be publicly available and accessible through well-known websites such as Windguru.cz and Windy.app, at no cost to users.
The purpose of this weather station is to improve weather forecasts and enhance the safety of both kitesurfing and fishing in the area. Our community is confident that having this information readily available to the public will be of significant benefit, not only to the kitesurfing and fishing communities, but also to anyone who spends time on the water.
We would like to assure you that the weather station will be fully autonomous and will not require any external power source. The station will be equipped with a solar panel and battery, making it self-sufficient and cost-effective. Furthermore, all expenses for the setup and ongoing operation of the station, including the cellular subscription, will be covered by the kitesurfers community.
Please see the attached map fragments and photographs, showing the placement of the station and a similar model installed at the Columbia Sun restaurant rooftop, and the unused inlet light base.
We hope that you will consider our request favorably and grant us permission to install this weather station. It will be a valuable contribution to the safety and enjoyment of all water sports activities, as well as fishing, in the area.
